We are all given 24 hours in each day. However, we each choose to use those 24 hours differently. A few weeks ago I had “all the time in the world” when I was on summer break, but now I am back to school and time is pressed.
There are some things that Ryan and I really try not to change no matter how busy we get. We always try to get 8 hours of sleep. We most often cook dinner. We always try to have dinner together. With those things constant it is hard sometimes to add more time “to get stuff done”. We wake up at 4:15 to go the the gym. Head to work by 6:30 ish, worj through our lunch, head home at about 4, start dinner at 5, finish dinner and clean up by 6. Then, about 7 o’clock we start getting ready for bed to lay down by 7:45 or 8. (Yes, I know it is a crazy schedule!) Basically, we have about 30 minutes free time between arriving home and starting dinner- if I don’t stay late at school, and an hour between dinner and bed- again if I don’t stay late at school. Otherwise everything gets shifted back a bit and no free time for the day. Oh and some where in there I write a blog post! Most people would take time from their sleep however that is not an option for us with our training.
When I get busy physically and mentally with school it starts to wear on me. Although Ryan and I still keep our dinner time as “our time” sometimes it becomes shorter or we don’t cook dinner together (to allow the other person to get stuff done). The quality and quantity of our quality time goes down or to me it feels like it does. I was trying to explain to Ryan I don’t know if the time actually does decrease or I just feel like it does. I think it may be a little bit of both.
When times get busy like this I go in micro manage mode along with maximum time management mode. Taking certain routes depending on where I need to stop, making phone calls while waiting in line, prioritizing the to do list, deciding what I can do in the time it would take me to explain it to someone else, etc, etc. I tend to always be a busy bee, but sometimes its more so than other times. I have previously wrote a post about time savers because I was looking to see where I could gain more time in the already full day.
So here I am thinking once again….. I am a wife, teacher and athlete who uses her time wisely, yet I do not seem to have enough time in the day. I don’t think I take too much on. I am just doing each of my roles to the fullest. I love doing each of them and love doing the things that are required for each role. Supporting my husband and spending time with him, preparing for class and finding new ideas, and spending time to become a better athlete.
Yet, a balance has to be found. Not one area can take over the other. Each has to have their designated time and enjoyment. Remember as newlyweds there will be many changes (Today was my first first day of school as a wife!) that have to be worked through. Balance is key. Along with communication! Let your spouse know how you are feeling and how they can help you through the changes. Find your balance!
